5 Simple Ways to Be More in the Moment With Your Kids

It’s pretty challenging being a parent. you most likely already have a day job, plus other responsibilities outside of work, and on top of that, you also have a family to take care of. Managing a family is already a full-time job on its own, so we understand why parents may feel overwhelmed or distracted at times and even feel like they are not fully present for their kids.

Luckily, there are many things that we can be more present for our kids, and if you read on, you may find that some of these methods may help you in this department of life.

Put Phone Away When You’re With Your Kids

It’s not enough to just simply be around your kids. You have to be there and present, and when you’re on your own, you won’t be there in the moment. your kids deserve to have you with them without you checking your phone every five minutes.

When you have your phone on you, then you’re more likely to feel the need to check it. By leaving your phone in a designated place when you want to get some quality time with your kids, you avoid most temptations to want to check it ever so often.

Set Time Aside for Having Fun With Your Kids Daily

When you bring a child or children into this world, you pretty much sign an unwritten contract to shake things up in your life. This means your whole routine is almost always going to revolve around the things that need to be taken care of for your family.

Sure, there are so many things that have to be attended to when we have children, but it’s important to set time aside each day for things that are enjoyable both for you and your children.

Stop Social Media and News Around Your Kids

Both the news and social media can suck anyone into its great abyss for minutes and sometimes even hours on end. your kids may need your full attention when you’re with them, and when you’re doom-scrolling or getting carried away with the news, you may not be able to give your kids your undivided attention.

Just remember that the news and social media aren’t going anywhere, and they’ll still be there a few hours later if you want to get back to it.

See Every Moment With Your Child as a Gift ( That Doesn’t Keep On Giving)

Having young children is such a blessing, but sadly, they grow up so fast. They aren’t going to be youngsters living under your roof forever, and before the blink of an eye, they may be all grown up and out of the house, so you may as well see every waking moment with them when they are young as a precious gift.

Introduce Mindful Practices

If you are ever feeling overwhelmed when you are with your kids, then perhaps you can try one of these methods to calm yourself down again and bring yourself back to the present moment:

  • Stop and take a few deep breaths
  • Rub hands together until they warm up
  • Do an upwards-to-the-sky stretch
